BCE Lunch Reading: Entrepreneurship in the Age of Open Innovation

To inspire you, to challenge you, and to share entrepreneurship knowledge and skills, BCE organizes a series of Lunch Readings on Entrepreneurship at Tilburg University during the spring semester. The aim is to have field experts discuss their practice regarding Entrepreneurship with students from Tilburg University (UvT).

“Not invented here” was yesterday. Today many global companies aggressively follow the motto “proudly found elsewhere” in their innovation strategy. The new paradigm is Open Innovation.

For entrepreneurs inside and outside big corporations, Open Innovation represents an unprecedented opportunity to be more innovative, get to market faster at lower investment and increase the chance of success after market launch.

Janke Dittmer is responsible for new venture creation and business strategy within the Philips Healthcare Incubator. The Healthcare Incubator’s goal is to turn early stage ventures both originating from within Philips and from the global start-up community into successful businesses that bring growth to Philips. His role entails being closely connected with the venture capital community. Before he was hired by Philips to help set up the Healthcare Incubator, Janke was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company advising clients all over Europe on Strategies for Growth. Prior to that, Janke cofounded a successful company in the Silicon Valley. Originally, Janke came to California as a Post-Doc in Nanotechnology at the University of California, Berkeley and Fellow in Materials Science at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. Janke earned his PhD in Physics from the University of Cambridge in the UK.
